  • Currently it is LTO Tape. It is the primary long term data storage medium in use today.  At Deep Time we are advocates for storing your data on LTO tape.

  • Getting started is simple. Reach out through our contact form or schedule a call—we’ll walk you through the next steps and answer any questions along the way.

  • Most actions for archives focus on a narrow goal of a deliverable.

Deep time is focused on strategies to make your archive a time capsule that can be reopened and refreshed again and again to meet future needs and preserve creative integrity.

  • You can reach us anytime via our contact page or email. We aim to respond quickly—usually within one business day.

  • We offer flexible pricing based on project type and complexity. After an initial conversation, we’ll provide a transparent quote with no hidden costs.

  • Collaborative, honest, and straightforward. We're here to guide the process, bring ideas to the table, and keep things moving.

  • We are a team of industry professionals who have been working in the field of audio-visual media preservation and restoration since the mid 1990's. We have seen many cutting edge recording technologies become obsolete and problematic. Early digital technologies once regarded as a solution to analogue technologies present many complex problems today. We have decades of experience converting media obsolescence into modernity without jeopardizing media integrity.

  • No forever is an impossibly long time. We think of archiving as an endurance relay which requires an executable long term plan that must be passed on to future archivists. Every 20 years, the archived data is migrated to the next best in class storage medium. Without an executable plan there is very narrow chance of your archive surviving into the deep time future.

  • LTO tape is the primary long term data storage medium for all large scale storage systems. When you store your data in the cloud, it is just in a data center with a managed LTO system. The latest  version LTO 10 has an uncompressed capacity of 40TB. We recommend migrating LTO tape every 15-20 years.

  • The current road map shows a single LTO14 tape reaching 576TB in capacity several years from now. But with improvements with material science tape will be a viable primary long term storage for decades.

  • Yes. We at Deep Time are always keeping the eye out for new storage mediums. Disk and SSD storage is useful for high touch media. Cloud storage is very useful for large quantities of high touch media, but LTO is the current leading long term storage solution and we recommend it.
